John is the local member of parliament for Bunbury and is a minister in government.
He made an election promise to save the remaining bushland at College Grove that was intended to be cleared for development. He is currently negotiating a landswap to save this bushland, nearly through now. Come on John, it's been 2 1/2 years now! Good work though. Common Brushtail Possums were regular nightly visitors to the tree platform. They raided it for food scraps and went through rubbish bags to get it. The Western Ringtail Possum is a threatened species that also inhabited the bushland there but they were not to be seen in the tree platform as they are a shy species who mainly eat leaves from trees. Perhaps they also have more manners than the Brushtail possums! They're so cute, aren't they! Thanks to John Vukovich for this film that is also at WAforests on Youtube - http://www.youtube.com/user/WAforests#g/a
A 73 year old pensioner from Bunbury climbs a tree with rope equipment to spend time guarding the tree in a tree platform. The tree platform was put up to defend an area of bushland from being cleared for a residential development in College Grove in Bunbury.
